Jamie Tirado & Journey Brennan
Frank Sinatra’s Twin Palms Estate
September 16, 2006

“Do it yourself and stick to your vision,” says Jamie Brennan, who planned her wedding at a famed midcentury home in Palm Springs. She and husband Journey surprised their guests with a very “Frank Sinatra-esque” vibe by choosing to rent the 1947 home designed by E. Stewart Williams for Frank Sinatra and his first wife, Nancy Barbato, for their poolside affair — complete with the piano-shaped pool. From the brightly colored sugar-rimmed martini glasses to the time spent hanging with the bridal party on the home’s period furnishings, the day swung with a retro coolness unique to the area’s history. The couple hired local French restaurant Le Vallauris to take care of the catering and the cake, while Jamie scoured Jensen’s markets across town for the best white roses she could find. To achieve the look she envisioned, she made her bouquet and some simple arrangements herself, dropping a single open rose into low-slung cocktail glasses. As the sunset, the atmosphere began to glow with candles across the tables and white lights strung through the trees.

While the couple lives in Aliso Viejo, Journey has been coming to the desert for 15 years and feels an emotional connection to Palm Springs. It didn’t take long for the couple’s guests to feel equally at home. “Everybody ended up in the pool at the end of the night,” Journey says. “About 30-plus people were dressed up and in that pool.” Sinatra would be proud.
